Welcome, The annual NEMTAC Transform Conference was held this summer in Dallas where we teamed up with a videographer to capture interviews and insights from 10 non-emergency medical transport (NEMT) fleet owners and operators. The conversations were led by our Director of Transportation and NEMT lead, Marc Crawford. Titled "NEMT Thought Leaders," we're sharing the series on our YouTube channel and just released episode 4. In addition to catching up on watching episodes 1, 2, and 3 on our YouTube channel (subscribe and be the first to know as new episodes come out), you can also watch and interact with them and others at our LinkedIn page here. Conferences and events offer meaningful ways to gain knowledge and expertise about various aspects of the fleet world. We continue to take advantage of these opportunities for the benefit of our customers. In this issue, we highlight two coming up in November. On the lighter side, we had some fun attending a Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium hosted by IPFS, one of our premium financing partners. As we expand our presence in the Northeast, we're working closely with New York-based Fenton Mobility. The company specializes in customized NEMT vehicles with options including diverse seating arrangements, specialized patient transport, essential equipment integration and Shift-N-Step access. Fenton has a strong relationship with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Lastly, we continue to expand our offices to accommodate the growth and expansion of our cross-border division. This sector is a key area of focus for S.W.A.N. as we strive to assist fleets in managing international business in today's dynamic trade landscape. Upcoming NEMT Events Build Resources for Fleets Our Director of Transportation and NEMT lead, Marc Crawford, will be on the road attending two important events in the month of November. These experiences offer invaluable opportunities to learn from our peers and stay on top of the leading trends that are vital for our clients. First is the Mobilize 2025 convention and expo hosted by The Transportation Alliance (TTA) in Las Vegas. It's the 107th annual gathering of the premier event of the year for the ground transportation industry. S.W.A.N. is pleased to be an official TTA Solution Provider. Industry segments represented will include micro-transit, NEMT, taxi, paratransit, black car, shuttle service and student transportation. Featured will be exhibits from leading companies in the industry plus highly informative professional education sessions. Second will be the BraunAbility Mobility Champions Symposium in Carmel and Winamac, Indiana. Marc will join top minds from across the mobility ecosystem including NEMT, rideshare, taxi, public transit, paratransit, policy, tech, safety, EVs, autonomous vehicles and pupil transportation. A special highlight of the symposium will be a BraunAbility plant tour for a behind-the-scenes look at WAV and lift production. SoCal Semi Crash Spotlights Potential B1 Visa Liabilities A deadly crash on a Southern California freeway was allegedly caused by a semi-truck driver in the U.S. illegally, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (video here). The eight-vehicle incident left three people dead and four others hospitalized. This tragic event affects all involved, including Mexican B1 drivers, and will likely lead to stricter visa enforcement. B1 drivers from Mexico will go through a tough time for a bit, although they are protected by the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) agreement. Given the occurrence of two recent incidents involving foreign CDL drivers, we expect a contraction in the available driver pool. That reduction is likely to strain carriers' ability to meet contractual volumes which may put upward pressure on freight rates. In turn, we may see increased participation from domestic drivers seeking to capitalize on the tighter market. Incidents like this provide needed motivation to learn how to be prepared. Critical considerations include always having CAMS installed in vehicles as well as random driver training and drug/alcohol testing.
